Hello, Inspiration Nation! There is no doubt that all of us have learned valuable lessons from our youth that serve us. These lessons have happened in our personal lives and also in scholastic settings. Case and point. Do you remember how repetitive your elementary school days were? Remember waking up at the same time? Catching the bus at the same time? And without skipping a day, every morning at the same time, you had to stand up, put your hand over your heart, stare at the American Flag and repeat the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America.

The psychological impact of the pledge is very powerful. It has become so embedded in our mentality that it is a part of our very being. Meaning, you couldn’t forget it, if you tried. And not only did we find that the pledge concept was good for us back then – it is certainly good now, and will be great as we build our future! That’s what you need to do today and every day…a Pledge of Commitment to your success and your happiness!

The word pledge means to give a solemn promise or oath for a cause you hold dear. Also, the word commitment means loyalty or devotion to a meaningful cause. These are two very compelling ideas, and when you combine them, they give you strength to overcome any situation in your life.

A lot of problems arise in life because of lack of commitment, and where there is no commitment leaves only instability and variableness. Conversely, when there is commitment, it eliminates wasted time, indecision and drama. I am a firm believer that everyone needs to walk their own path. Therefore, once time has been taken to establish the direction you want to go in life, that’s when your pledge needs to be implemented.

Everything you do in life will demand the commitment that it deserves. Whether that is our jobs, our relationships, or even ourselves. When we are living a life that is not what we know we should live, we need to stop…and pledge commitment. We need to commit to the fact that we deserve the best. We need to commit that we are willing to work for the best. We need to commit to the fact that we are worth it!

But it gets better. Pledging commitment to your success will help others. Did you know that as you strive to be successful you will enlist the support of others to help you reach your goals? This in turn helps others grow and become more fulfilled. Never underestimate the power of a good mentor in your life. Never underestimate the power of a good Self Help Guru ( like me 🙂 )! These people are in life to help you achieve your goals…but you have to be willing to put in the work. Your dream is an invisible reality and I believe you are going to get there, but you’re not going see it until you spend some serious time soul searching and recreating yourself into the person you desire to be. This is a key principle – be the person that you want to be! Not the person that your mom or your dad, brother, sister, husband, or friends want you to be. It’s your life. You are in control of it. Allow me to help empower you to take control of your life!

There are different aspects to each of our lives. Therefore, you should be striving to be the best in these areas. Not the “best” as in better than someone else. Competition today, breeds jealousy. Jealousy is something that will poison your mind and heart. If you are a jealous person, we need to take the necessary steps to eliminate that jealous nature. We all have specific gifts, talents, passions, and ambitions. Something that is big for you, will be small for someone else. Therefore, jealousy should not have a place in your life. We grow throughout our lives, not only emotionally, but physically, spiritually, and mentally as well. With the changing landscape that is in the world today, there is nothing more consistent than change. And that’s why we need to be committed to purposeful success.

There are many prizes in life. Life is far from being a zero sum game. It’s not winner take all. Don’t get me wrong, there is only one top spot – that’s true. However, the top spot is not won by being the best of everyone…it’s being the best that you can be compared to everyone. Meaning, make the investment everyday of your time to become the best you can be and everything else will take care of itself – your Pledge of Commitment will see to that!

Remember, in life there are a lot of people that will let you down. The one person you should be able to depend on is yourself.
